Currently three museums, the Uganda National Museum in Kampala, the Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara, southwest Uganda and the Ethnographic Museum at the University of Zurich, have undertaken an unusual collaboration: They engage in joint research in Uganda and Switzerland, and co-creating exhibitions in dialogue for the benefit of all three institutions. Until now four exhibitions have been realized.
Since the beginning of the 21st century, the question of what role ethnographic museums in Europe should play has been continually debated, and cooperation with museums in the global South has become increasingly important.
