The Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara in southwest Uganda was founded to study, document, conserve and promote the cultural and natural heritage of the region. Its vision is to treasure the local cultural heritage and promote its relevance for the present day and future life of the community. Rather than being based on a large collection, the museum thrives on its experienced-oriented programme as visitors not only tour the exhibition but also the surrounding natural and cultural sites, and attend pottery and milk processing courses and traditional dances.
